Thanks to Brooke for leading us in considering another of our favorite Bible stories during this summer ‘community lectionary.’ Please note that Pastor Tim Phillips will be out of town until Thursday afternoon, August 28. Pastoral concerns can be directed to Jackie Lamont of our Congregational Care Team. Administrative concerns can be addressed by our Moderator, Eric Brown. Sunday, Aug. 31, The Telling Stories series continues with the story of the vineyard workers in Matthew 20.1-16, suggested by Violy as a statement about economic justice. Our Labor Day Sunday service is titled, “Minimum Wage,” led by Tim Phillips and Margie Paynton.
SEPTEMBER EVENTS
Labor Day Picnic, Monday, Sept. 1, gathering from 3-6 p.m. with food served at 4 at Tim & Patrick’s. Grilled chicken, drinks, and tableware provided. Your side dish or dessert would be welcomed.
UBC Team at Saturday Kitchen, Saturday, Sept. 6. Contact Daniel Hannah to volunteer at (206) 992-9453 or look for the sign-up sheet in the Narthex.
Choir resumes on Sunday, Sept. 7 with rehearsal beginning at 9:15 a.m. in the Sanctuary. All are welcome. For more information, contact Margie Paynton at (206) 937-6211.
Quarterly Business Meeting follows worship on Sunday, Sept. 7. Please plan to stay after worship for an update on our property and other business.
Thursday evening, Soul Soup, program resumes on Thursday, Sept. 11, in the McAfee Parlor. Soup served at 6:00 p.m. and Bible Study at 6:30.
A Place for Weary Feet, UBC Fall Retreat, Friday-Sunday, Sept. 19-21. Registrations are due by Sunday Sept. 14th – forms are available in the church office, in the narthex and here.
Our congregational Sacred Conversation on Race will begin with worship on Sunday, Sept. 28, in a team sermon by Diane Schmitz and Bev Spears. Other activities are being planned as well and we encourage everyone to take part in this conversation as we continue to seek to be the community Christ calls us to be.
