Social Justice

University Baptist Church has had a long commitment to social justice.  We have provided temporary shelter for those in need a safe place to stay, day care for children,  food for the hungry, meeting space for various groups, and inspiration and leadership in working towards a just society.  Our members have been active through church-sponsored events and through their independent activities locally and internationally.

- Youth and young adults from UBC volunteer every year to sell trees at Dunshee House -

Members and friends of UBC are encouraged to join together in sharing their time and resources to improve the quality of life for our brothers and sisters.

THIS MONTH:

School Library in Tounkourouma Guinea, Africa

UBC has worked with people from Africa for many years. Our church has connections in Egypt, Ghana, Guinea, Nigeria and Kenya. Right now, one of our members, Tosten H., is a PeaceCorps volunteer teaching science to the children of the village of Tounkourouma in Guinea. When Tosten first met his students, he realized the need for them to have a space to study and to learn beyond the classroom. Through a generous grant from our Peace, Justice and Reconciliation Team Tosten and other PeaceCorps vounteers are now building a library at the local school.

You can follow Tosten's progress by visiting his blog at http://youngflaneur.blogspot.com/
