Faithful to our Baptist principles, University Baptist Church is an autonomous community that recognizes the importance of maintaining cooperation with other communities. Recognizing that our church cannot do the work alone, we have freely chosen to affiliate with several local, national and international groups to strengthen our work for the building of God’s Reign of Peace, Justice, and Reconciliation.
Denominational Family
Our denominational family is the American Baptist Churches, USA, (ABC-USA) one of the most ethnically and theologically diverse denominations with over 5,500 congregations around the United States and Puerto Rico.
UBC also supports the work and ministry of the Evergreen Association of American Baptist Churches. This Region of the ABC-USA is the home of congregations in Washington, Utah, California, Idaho, and Alaska doing business by consensus and organized by ethnic caucus.
As a community of faith who celebrates God’s diverse creation, UBC is a member of the Association of Welcoming & Affirming Baptists. AWAB is the national voice for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Baptists. Our faith community not only welcomes LGBT individuals and families in the life of the church, we also celebrate and affirm their holiness!
Association of Welcoming and Affirming Baptists
UBC is a Peace Church. We recognize that the only way of attaining justice in the world is by teaching peace, living out peacefully, and empowering peacemakers to build God’s Reign here and now. For this reason, we have partnered with the Baptist Peace Fellowship of North America to help in the “gathering, equipping, and mobilizing Baptists to build a culture of peace rooted in justice.”
